In Humility

Setting up - cleaning up - Sunday school teacher - church work day. Jobs that most people do not want to do. Oh, sure, plenty of people want to preach or sing, the upfront jobs--but what about the jobs with little recognition, jobs that are dirty, or jobs that cut (even more) into your weekend?

We have to adjust our natural, humanly thinking, to realize that it is actually an *honor* to do the jobs people don’t praise us for. Speaking about giving to the needy Jesus says to not announce your service to the world, “so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you,” (Mt 6:4). Add this to Him saying in today’s reading (Mt 23:11-12) that we should be humble (and let Him exalt us) and what do we get?

Personal Takeaway: Whatever you do for God or in your daily life, do it in humility--in His strength and love--and see what a glorious adventure He will take you on!

A prayer: Father in heaven, thank you for all that you have given me. Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross and resurrecting back to life so that I can be forgiven of my sins and spend eternity with You. Holy Spirit, thank you for filling me and leading me on the path I should go. Triune God--three in one--open my eyes to all that you do for me, so that I may walk in humility. Please give me the strength to see and accept my weaknesses, and the patience and humility to follow Your leading in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
